There's a particular kind of DJ who doesn't just play records — he builds a mood, a memory, a moment you carry with you long after the lights come up. Dennis Cruz is one of them. Born Denis de Galdo Troyano in Madrid on 28 March 1983, he's spent the better part of two decades turning tech house and techno into something warmer, funkier, and unmistakably his own.
Beginnings
Cruz picked up DJing at 17, back when it was still just something he did for fun. Madrid was his classroom — he'd slip into Oscar Mulero's sets around the city, soaking up the kind of hypnotic, driving techno that would shape his ear for years to come. Michael Jackson, oddly enough, left just as deep a mark, and you can hear that pop instinct for groove and melody threaded through even his darkest productions.
While DJing remained a passion project, Cruz was also studying sound engineering, which sent him straight into recording studios, working alongside hip-hop and rock artists long before house music became his full-time language. It wasn't until 2010 that he began producing in earnest — and from there the trajectory only pointed upward. Releases on Snatch!, Solid Grooves, Suara, Suruba, Saved, Deeperfect and Moon Harbour turned him into one of the most consistently charting names in tech house: by 2016 he'd landed multiple Beatport Number 1s and was ranked Resident Advisor's 2nd Most Charted Artist of the year, on top of picking up Best Producer at the 2017 DJ Awards.
Touring
Once his sound found its footing, Cruz's schedule went global fast — Greece, the UK, North and South America, Russia, Australia. What sets him apart on the road isn't just technical polish; it's his knack for pacing a night so the crowd feels every peak and dip as if it were scripted just for them. That's earned him support from heavyweights like Jamie Jones, Marco Carola, Joseph Capriati and Roger Sanchez — DJs who've kept his tracks in regular rotation across their own sets.
Lifestyle
What separates Cruz from a lot of his contemporaries is the range behind the DJ booth. He's a working producer with a studio background rooted in genres far outside dance music, a label owner, and a co-founder of Loud Creative Agency — an artist representation outfit he helps run alongside his own release schedule. It's a career built on constant movement between roles: writing, mixing, running a business, and still finding time to tour at the pace he does.
Collaborations, Inspirations and What's Next
Cruz's catalogue spans house and techno's biggest imprints, and he's also built his own platforms — founding Lemon-Aid Music and MÜSE to release music on his own terms. His two studio albums, Roots (2021) and Stikk (2024), mark his most complete artistic statements to date, while singles keep arriving at a steady clip.
More recently, Cruz teamed up with British producer PAWSA to launch GOLFOS — a back-to-back project blending minimal tech house with jazzy samples and funk-driven grooves. The name is Spanish slang for troublemakers, which feels about right given the mischief in their sets. GOLFOS has already landed at Kappa Futur Festival in Turin, Circoloco NYC, and Tenerife's GreenWorld Festival, with 2024's "Bonito" on Solid Grooves and 2025's "Fabulous" among the latest releases keeping the momentum going.
Multiple Vicious Music Awards nominations across 2015 and 2016 sit alongside the chart numbers and the festival slots as proof that the wider industry has kept pace with what the dancefloor already knew. From a hip hop studio floor in his twenties to techno's biggest stages today, Dennis Cruz has built a career on borrowing freely from every genre he's touched. That's exactly what keeps his music sounding like nobody else's.
